Program Description
In partnership with the Delaware County Literacy Council (DCLC), PA CareerLink offers a variety of learning paths tailored to your individual goals. We support adult students in developing reading, writing, math, and English language skills to thrive in the professional world and their community. Let’s explore adult education in Pennsylvania for every learner and every aptitude.
High School Equivalency (GED) Preparation
This learning track is designed for adults who do not have a high school diploma. DCLC offers free adult education programs both online and in-person to prepare for the four subject tests (math, language arts, science, and social studies) included in the GED. Students will learn test preparation skills to successfully study for and complete the GED exam.
In addition, free tutoring and small study group instruction is available to all learners. Test taking requires time, commitment, and practice. Our adult education programs are designed to support working adult learners with flexible day and evening meeting times available.
ESL Classes
English as a Second Language (ESL) courses are free and available to immigrants and non-native English speakers who would like to improve their language skills. ESL courses at DCLC teach students by immersion, developing confidence and building English skills for the workplace and anywhere else life takes you.
Adult Basic Education (ABE)
ABE focuses on developing basic reading, writing, and math skills, while tailoring these objectives to a student’s specific goals. This adult education program provides a great foundation for continuing studies in areas like computer science and other job related skills.
Digital Literacy
Did you know that 92% of today’s jobs focus on digital skills? Digital literacy is a must for today’s professionals.
Have you always wanted to improve your technical expertise? The digital literacy program focuses on developing technology skills with today’s top digital tools like cloud storage, social media, payment and financial portals, Google Docs and Excel, and job search engines. This track is especially valuable in developing more competitive career skills.
Career Services
DCLC offers free job search help for residents over the age of 40 who have received unemployment compensation in the last year through our Back to Work Program. Employment Coaches work one-on-one with students through all steps of the job search, including application assistance and interview prep.
In addition, the Immigrant Employment Program offers free career assistance for immigrants in Delaware County.
Benefits of Adult Education
Adult education offers a wealth of benefits for lifelong learners. Continuing education improves job prospects, earning potential, and overall quality of life, enriching both students and their communities. Studies indicate that adults who have attained higher education levels are typically more employable and earn a higher income. In addition, developing and mastering skills builds confidence and supports overall growth and happiness.
We equip adult learners to make an impact on their communities and foster success through skill development.
